American River
No reports this week.
Feather River
Fishing is poor to fair. Just a few steelhead remain in the low flow. Best reports are coming from riffles and tailouts below the outlet in the high flow section. Drift
an egg pattern with a beadhead nymph dropper over drop-offs and in tailouts. Be sure to cover lots of water to find the remaining steelhead in the system. Fishing will pick
up when access above Highway 70 opens on Jan.1 and with more rain.
Lower Sac River
Fishing is fair to good. Best fishing is from Anderson to Balls Ferry but with enough rain the river will be off color below Anderson. Wade fishing has been good in the
Posse Grounds. In the morning, fish a beadhead nymph with an egg dropper. Not a lot of salmon spawning, but they remember the egg. Best fishing is from noon to 3pm when fish
are actively feeding on BWO nymphs. Drifting a rubberleg stone with a BWO dropper will hook fish in seams and along clay banks. Reports of steelhead caught this week below
Anderson.
Upper Sac River
Fishing fair with most of the activity during the midday BWO hatch. Fish are lethargic in the cold water and not eager to bite a fly when the sun is off the water.
Trinity River
Fishing is fair. The recent foul weather is bringing fish out of deeper pools and into slower runs where water temperatures are warmer. There are not many salmon around but egg
patterns are still producing, as well as stoneflies and bright beadhead nymphs. The best fishing is from Junction City upstream to Lewiston. Swinging flies will be less productive
in colder water but a few fish have been reported on sink tips with silver hiltons and herniators around Hoopa and Willow Creek. 1-3 hookups a day is good.
Truckee River
Fishing is poor to fair. Fish are slowing down due to cold water temperatures but will be active midday on sunny days. Few fish are rising to dries. Best action is with smaller
streamers worked slowly on sink tips. Also try fishing attractor beadhead nymphs through tailouts and slower moving water. #16 and #18 Copper John is the recent hot fly. Best fishing
is below Boca where there is more water and higher water temperatures.
Hat Creek
No reports this week.
