Woodland Plantation
Located in "Sportsman's
Paradise" , Woodland Plantation is one of the premier
fishing destinations in the world. Woodland Plantation
is the only remaining example of the once many great
plantation homes in the Delta on the west bank of the
Mississippi River, 34 miles southeast of the French
Quarter in New Orleans.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a broad meadow
(remnants of a sugar cane field), The Big House,
Overseers House, one remaining slave cabin and the sugar
mill and pumping station ruins which were the heart and
soul of Woodland's original 2100 acres.
The Big House featured on all bottles of Southern
Comfort, is an architectural gem representing classic
Louisiana Plantation style; broad porches front and
back, key hole designed French doors etc., is
authentically furnished with fine antiques. Available
are 9-single/double bedroom suites, all with private
facilities.
The Mississippi River levee and batture fronting
Woodland provide visitors intimate views of river
traffic, and miles to jog, bike, etc. This Riparian
Batture along with the Alluvial Meadow and levee, shrub
swamp (Le Petit Merais) and Bottomland Hardwood Forest
are four distinct natural habitats that occur at
Woodland Plantations 50+acres.
Spirits of Woodland Hall, circa 1880's a gothic chapel
was moved onto the Plantation in October of 1998;
restored/renovated 1999, and is now open to dining,
weddings, receptions, conferences, retreats, and
