Native Run Fly Fishing Guide Service
If you are looking for a fly
fishing experience like none other, then Native Run can
take care of you. Sight fishing for steelhead and
rainbows is their specialty. Float trips are provided
down the Rogue, North Umpqua, Wood and Williamson
rivers. Bring your own equipment or have Native Run
supply you with everything. They use top of the line
equipment from waders and boots to rods, reels and drift
boats. Some Steelhead fishing will require casts of 60
feet and more. Generally, the qualified teaching guides
at Native Run can have beginners casting 60'+ with the
two handed Spey rods in less than a 1/2 hour.
The Fishing
Rogue River Steelhead: In late September and all of
October are very easy because of two things, (1) the
river is at its lowest flow and (2) Spring and Fall
Chinook Salmon are spawning on each riffle by the
hundreds, and the steelhead lay behind them picking up
single eggs just like Rainbows in Alaska.
North Umpqua Steelhead: You can see spot 70% of the fish
that you will hook and 80% of these fish require a 60'
to 90' cast, so that is why they use Spey rods. Sight
fishing; spot the Steelhead, cast to the Steelhead, and
watch the Steelhead eat the fly. How much fun can a
person have? It could be the most spectacular river on
the West Coast for fishing and scenery.
The Wood and Williamson Rivers, along with Klamath and
Agency Lakes, harbor the largest on average Rainbows in
the lower 48. Fish are not talked about until it is a
double digit 10+ pounds. Average size is 24" and very
few under 18".
