Cedar Lodge
The 160,000 square mile wilderness of the
Kamchatka Peninsula just might be the last untapped area
of wild trout and steelhead in the world. The Kamchatka
Peninsula is just a 5-hour flight from Anchorage over an
area that is covered rivers, volcanoes, moose, reindeer,
and brown bears. Kamchatka is south of the Arctic circle
with weather similar to western Canada. Kamchatka is
greater in size than California, Oregon, and Washington
combined.
The geography of the Kamchatka Peninsula is similar to
Alaska and there are thousand rivers teeming with trout,
char, salmon and wild steelhead. You will be fishing in
areas covered with volcanoes, meadows, evergreen and
birch trees as far as the eye can see and just one road
into the interior Kamchatka keeps the population to a
minimum.
The Kamchatka Peninsula possesses rivers that have never
been seen by a fisherman and most are filled with fish
that will die of old age without ever having seen a fly.
Cedar Lodge is located among birch and cottonwood trees
on the banks of the Zhupanova River. Staffed with both
experienced American and Russian guides. The lodge
amenities are deluxe for this remote operation and
include five double and triple rooms with private
bathroom and showers. The general areas of the lodge
provide a comfortable sitting room for cards, chess or
pool, a sauna with an adjoining cold pool, showers and
dressing rooms. The food at Cedar Lodge is excellent
specializing in regional cuisine available only in
Kamchatka, as well as more traditional fare. Dishes
include wild game, seafood, fresh fish, home-baked
breads and pastries, with American produce and
beverages. Complimentary alcoholic beverages, including
premium beer and wine are served with dinner. Hot shore
lunches are served daily on the river, consisting of
perhaps char, salmon, or wild game.
The Zhupanova River, a large shallow river, trout
fishing paradise. It is normal for anglers to catch the
biggest trout of their life. You can cast to riffles and
shoals holding pods of free-rising 22"-26" Rainbow
Trout, with some fish reaching 28"-30". A boat, and
guide are assigned for every two guests. Modern Yamaha
powered jet boats easily cover over 60 miles of prime
Rainbow waters. |
