The chalk streams of southern England are well known as
the cradle of modern fly fishing. The reason why these
rivers have always enthralled the fly fisher is not so
well understood – it is due to the nerve-tingling
excitement of casting at large, wary trout in crystal
clear water! That is how the artificial dry fly and
nymph came to be developed there in the 19th Century,
and although modern technology has improved our
equipment, the methods and tactics used today are
essentially the same. Feeding trout are individually
stalked with an imitative fly cast delicately and
accurately upstream. You will rarely catch a chalk
stream trout by accident – each one presents a unique
sporting challenge. |
