Utah's Green River is one of the world's great trout fishing rivers. Trout Creek Flies/Green River Outfitters is the premier outfitter for this section of the Green River. Straddling the borders of Utah and Wyoming, near the three corners country, created by the boundaries of Utah, Wyoming and Colorado resides the magnificent Flaming Gorge Reservoir and the majestic red rock canyon of the Green River. The Green slices through the beautiful Uinta Mountain range on its journey to join the Colorado River in Colorado. It has created quite a unique setting for fly fishing heaven.
Trout Creek Flies invites you to visit and experience the world-class trout fishing on Utah's Green River. They feature quality walk / wade in addition to the very desirable drift boat fishing trips on this trophy tail water fishery below the dam. This region is well known for its rugged beauty, colorful history and one of the healthiest trout populations anywhere in the world. The Green boasts fish counts ranging in numbers to over 14,000 fish per mile! A stanch "fishing-for-fun" catch and release philosophy is strictly adhered to by the guide crew.
There is a deep history of Outlaw lore in the area, plus the Geological structures in the area are an annual draw for students of Geology from around the world. Animal life flourishes along the river corridor. There are many aspects other then the fishing that produce the best guides. Trout Creek Flies' guides are extremely knowledgeable about the entire physiognomy of the river and surrounding area, and they are happy to answer any questions that may arise on your trip down the river. It is the guides' desires that when you leave the Green River, you have honed your skills in order to be able to visit any river and have knowledge enough to fish it with confidence, and appreciate the surrounding country
The Green River is a year-around fishery, but like all fishing trips, it is weather dependent. The peak season begins as early as March or sometime in April, depending on Winter's hold on spring's arrival.
There are early mayfly hatches of BWO's when the weather cooperates and fishing can be spectacular.
As the ground thaws and the snow drifts recede, the annual emergence of the famous cicadas begins, usually appearing in the latter days of May. Irregularly there is the "not-too-many-times-in-a-lifetime" experience of witnessing the famous Giant Cicada "hatch". This one particular specie of cicada is tricky to predict as it is said that the individuals can lay dormant for up to 17 years prior to emerging in mass numbers. Once these enormously oversized terrestrials begin hitting the water, the browns, rainbows, cutthroats, cut-bows and the occasional brookies abandon all normalcies and attack any reasonable facsimile with reckless abandon.
Throughout the summer, caddis can be counted on in great numbers. Additionally you will find PMD's and Trico's, as well as all the other very important terrestrial that the fish have grown accustomed to dining on each summer, including the exciting Mormon Cricket, 'hoppers, beetles and ants.
There are daily hatches of midges throughout the winter.
