Grosvenor Lodge

Grosvenor Lodge

You can expect seclusion and comfortable accommodations at our Grosvenor Lodge, not to mention the great fishing for rainbows, char, lake trout, pike and sockeye salmon (in season). The narrows area adjacent to the lodge provides excellent fishing and Grosvenor has access by jet boat to some of southwest Alaska'a finest fishing streams. Two of the rivers accessible from Grosvenor are the largest spawning streams for sockeye salmon in the Naknek drainage, getting over 100,000 fish each annually.

Accommodating only six guests at a time, Grosvenor is ideal for families, business associates or a group of fishing buddies. Guests are accommodated in the three guest cabins which have heat and electricity. A completely modern bathhouse is situated a short distance from the cabins. The kitchen and dining area feature a great view of Grosvenor Lake. Many a tale has been told in the main lodge which houses the lounging area and bar, where complimentary cocktails are served each evening. The personable staff, comfortable accommodations, and excellent fishing assure you a memorable fishing experience.

Seasons & Species

In June and early July the fish feast on baby salmon fry and salmon smolts as well as leeches, sculpins, mice and the occasional insect hatch. Dry fly opportunities may develop towards late June and early July. For these times big, bushy attractor patterns work fine.

The Sockeyes arrive about the second week in July. July is a good time to go after pike in the weedy shallows.

In August, the 'hatch' is salmon eggs, with the fish feeding on them almost exclusively.

Through September, egg patterns continue to catch fish, but Flesh-flies will be the hot pattern at times.

During your stay at Grosvenor, you will have jet boat access to several of Alaska's finest freshwater streams. There will have be opportunity to fish for Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, Lake Trout, and Northern Pike. Sockeye and Silver Salmon are each available during a limited time slot; the last three weeks of July for Sockeye, and the first three weeks of September for Silvers. Including fly outs during your stay can put you onto additional salmon and trout throughout the season.

Your Grosvenor Lodge adventure will begin in Anchorage. You will most likely need to overnight prior to the day you are scheduled to arrive at Grosvenor. The day's journey to Grosvenor begins when you board Katmailand's (Grosvenor's parent company) private Air Navajo Chieftain at Lake Hood air strip Anchorage. The 235 mile flight to the Kulik Lodge airstrip will take you across Cook Inlet and past two volcanoes; Mt. Iliamna and Mt. Augustine. Then it's off to the float plane for the twenty minute flight to Grosvenor.

Upon arrival at Grosvenor, you'll be shown to your cabin and issued an Alaska fishing license. Then, settle in and prepare for an afternoon of angling awaiting you just steps away!

During the remaining full days of your stay, you will access some of the finest fishing found anywhere in Katmai National Park via jet boats or float planes will provide fly out fishing for those who have chosen the fly-out option, allowing you a chance to experience the wide variety of fishing challenges offered in the Katmai area.
