Mission Lodge

Mission Lodge

The luxurious Mission Lodge is located on the shores of Lake Aleknagik in the heart of the world-famous Bristol Bay region of Southwest Alaska. This area offers unsurpassed trophy fishing for salmon and trout in a spectacular wilderness setting.

Aleknagik Mission Lodge is uniquely equipped to fly into remote areas by both float plane and specially equipped wheel planes. During your week long stay adventurous anglers are encouraged to spend a day floating on one of the famous trout streams in the region and to rotate through the remote outpost camps on the banks of superb fishing waters.

Hook into trophy sized rainbows or Arctic char. Test your fly fishing skills on Arctic grayling in the clear cold streams. Twenty to forty pound king salmon return in June, with lunkers to fifty pounds not uncommon. In July, waters teem with sockeye, chum, and humpback salmon. Starting in August running through October, the acrobatic silvers provide spectacular days of fishing. Hook these dandies and the line will smoke off your reel, as the fish erupts from the water.
This is an adventure you won't want to miss!

Seasons & Species

Depending on the week, you may target up to five species of Pacific Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling, Lake Trout and Northern Pike and most any combination thereof.

Itinerary

Fly commercially from Anchorage to Dillingham, approximately one hour. In Dillingham you will be greeted by the lodge staff that will transport you and your luggage to Lake Aleknagik by private shuttle. There you will transfer to the boat and enjoy a quick, scenic ride across the lake to the lodge. The staff will whisk your gear to your room, while you shake hands with the hosts and then pick up your fishing license and sample the waiting appetizers.

Accommodations

This modern facility is an ideal site for small corporate meetings, business entertaining, or the highlight of any Alaskan vacation. The well traveled angler will recognize the extras that make a stay at Mission Lodge a trip of a lifetime.

Easy access, deluxe facilities and unsurpassed trophy fishing make Mission Lodge, the classic Alaska fly out lodge experience. Sauna, Hot tub, sumptuous dining, a comfortable lounge and recreation area are added features of Mission Lodge. A large deck surrounding the facility is just steps from the dock, float planes and boats. Large bay windows frame views of Lake Aleknagik and the beautiful mountains beyond. This is a rugged immense land of startling beauty – a great place to just step out of everyday pressures and relax.

Mission is one of the only lodges in Alaska where a private room is standard. You will sleep on a real bed (not a foam pad on plywood), your window looks out over the lake and the bathroom is just steps away in the lighted hall. Most importantly, you don’t have to listen to Uncle Joe snore all night (or he does not have to listen to you).

For couples, there is special suites that have a private baths in the rooms.

Other Activities

The goal is to utilize the various different fisheries while they are in their prime. To do this, Mission’s pilots will fly you and your guide out to different rivers and streams depending on the species that you are interested in each day.

Each evening prior, you will be asked what kind of experience you are up for the following day. The guides will then get the necessary gear put together in the tackle room (which doubles as a great story telling hang out). The next morning after breakfast you board one of the float planes and head out with a guide (or to a spike camp with a guide waiting) to one of the many world class, and in some cases world famous, rivers and streams of the region. Depending on the location, there may be jet boats positioned to take you up and down the river and to fish from or transport you to different gravel bars for wading.

Cast & Blast! September 6 – 13, '13 and September 13 – 20, '13. Ask about this fall’s exciting fishing and bird hunting in remote Alaska. Enjoy three days of world-class fishing pursuing trophy fall Rainbow trout, Silver salmon and other native species. Spend two days hunting the Willow Ptarmigan in the tundra over professional German Shorthaired Pointers and one day of duck hunting. The fall colors will be in full bloom and the fishing and hunting at its prime.

TROUT FISHING
River fishing for resident native species including: Trophy Rainbow trout, Arctic Char, Arctic Grayling. These fish are gorging themselves in preparation for the coming winter and are in their absolute prime condition.

SALMON FISHING:

Silver Salmon with be available in great numbers during this same time period.

UPLAND HUNTING:
The main quarry in our upland hunting program is the Willow Ptarmigan. These birds change color from all light brown in summer to snow white in winter for effective camouflage from predators. During the hunting season they are in between color phases making for nice contrasting targets. Another distinctive feature of this bird is its feathered toes.
You will be hunting over professional, award winning German Shorthaired Pointers. These well trained dogs will greatly enhance the hunt and are extremely fun just to watch in action.
There is also some opportunity to hunt Spruce Grouse; however their dense habitat makes them a secondary choice.

WATERFOWL:
Duck species of Mallard, American Widgeon, Northern Pintail, Green Wing Teal, Bluebill and Gadwall with a chance at some geese including Cackling Canada Goose and Pacific Brant.
You will hunt from blinds mainly on freshwater lakes in the region. These lakes are the early staging grounds for the Pacific flyway and have new groups of ducks entering daily.
Bag limits are liberal and Mission Lodge will be happy to process your birds to your liking, including vacuumed sealed and flash frozen similar to your salmon.
