Hawaii FLY FISHING TRIPS

If you have never considered Hawaii as a fly fishing destination, we highly recommend that you reconsider your thinking. The "little guys" are as often as big or bigger than the "trophies" in other destinations.  Be aware, these are not the easy "schooling" bones that you may have encountered elsewhere, these are mostly singles, sometime doubles with rare shots at a pod of multiple fish.  The flats are a little deeper, the wind tends to be a little more persistent, these big fish tend to like bigger, heavier flies and longer leaders are generally required.  All these factors add up to requiring you to step up your overall game.  Don't come here without practicing your casting - in the wind - with bigger than average rods (8-weights are usually the bare minimum with lots of folks favoring 9-weights and there are some who think a 10-weight is just right).  If you are going to Christmas Island, and are planning to fish bones here as an extension to your trip, you should plan to do it on your return from Christmas... the six days of practice will come in handy!
