Rainbows, Browns, Greenback Cutthroat and Grayling.

RAW Species

Itinerary

After a great breakfast by the fire at the lodge, schedule a casting class or step right into the river from the porch.  Cast flies with your professional fly fishing guide in solitude to ferocious rainbows and wily brown trout.  When you are ready, head back to the lodge for lunch.  Spend an afternoon or evening as the sun sets over Rawah Peaks casting flies to grayling in one of the nearby Stillwater fisheries.  Travel with professional fly fishing guides, on gentle proven mountain horses or on foot into the Rawah Wilderness and fish for Colorado’s only native trout, the elusive Greenback Cutthroat, in one of a dozen “seldom seen” high country lakes.  Combine Rawah’s home waters with thier exclusive access to private wild waters in nearby North Park and create an unparalleled “Western Sampler” on coveted waters such as the North Platte, North Fork of the North Platte, the Michigan and the Canadian rivers.

Accommodations

While at Rawah, guests enjoy their own private log cabins warmed by fireplaces and woodstoves. The cabins are each truly unique in their names and character.  Each of the cabins has its own private bath and is serviced daily by the housekeeping staff.

You are encouraged to turn your cabin into your own personal spa and have the on-staff masseur enhance your stay, letting you escape just a little bit further.

Other Activities

HORSEBACK RIDING

At Rawah, the riding possibilities are nearly limitless – through thousands of acres of protected pristine wilderness, above 11,400′ tree lined passes, along sage-covered hills, past tumbling streams, beaver dams and ponds, next to granite outcrops and rainbow-ribboned sandstone cliffs – on riding trails ranging from the steep and narrow to the more level open areas with top-of-the-world views as far as the eye can see.  There is no better way to experience the beauty of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains than from the back of one of Rawah’s fine horses.

HIKING

Rawah Guest Ranch is a hiker’s paradise. You can set off on foot for a short or all-day hike into the Rawah Wilderness or Roosevelt National Forest right from the ranch.  The pocket Trail Guide to many of the marvelous half-day hikes, written by 30 year veteran Rawah hiker June Wheeler, is in each cabin and Lodge room.

And, for those wishing to take even greater advantage of Rawah’s hiking “wanderland,” there are at least a dozen memorable all-day hikes.  A short trip by car will bring you to the roadless areas of Rocky Mountain National Park, where you’ll be able to explore the wonder of the Park without all the main-gate crowds.  Many of these trails begin at about 10,000 feet yet have very gentle inclines – perfect for anyone who wants to take in some of the most spectacular scenery in the Rockies.  Trail maps and easy-to-understand directions to numerous trailheads provide scenery descriptions and degree of difficulty for each hike.

If you are looking for a guided hiking expert, Rawah has just that.  Offering guided hikes ranging in all types of difficulty from short hikes before breakfast to all day treks over 11,400′ passes.  There are even specialty hikes offered such as: fitness, social, extreme and nature.
